Malaysia's online job vacancies declined 11.4% in Q2 2026, but demand remained strongest for professional and managerial positions. The Services sector continued to provide the largest share of advertised opportunities.
The number of job opportunities advertised online in Malaysia decreased by 11.4% to 555,509 during the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest Job Market Insights report from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
The report monitors vacancies posted on major private recruitment platforms and provides an overview of hiring demand across different occupations and economic sectors.
Professionals remained the largest occupational group, representing 285,907 vacancies, or 51.5% of all online job postings during the quarter. However, this was down from the 315,768 vacancies recorded in the first quarter of 2026.
Managers were the second-largest category with 87,950 vacancies, while Technicians and Associate Professionals accounted for 86,512 postings.
Among individual occupations, Advertising and Marketing Professionals had the highest number of advertised positions at 40,640. Managing Directors and Chief Executives followed with 26,649 vacancies, while Administrative Associate Professionals recorded 23,984, Accountants and Auditors 22,067, and Software Developers 19,899.
The figures show that although overall online job postings declined, hiring demand continued to be focused largely on professional and managerial roles.
The Services sector recorded the highest number of online vacancies, with 243,896 postings, representing 43.9% of the total during the second quarter.
Within Services, the Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles subsector led with 78,526 vacancies. Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities followed with 32,127 postings, while Administrative and Support Service Activities recorded 28,788.
Accommodation and Food Service Activities accounted for 20,629 vacancies, followed closely by Financial and Insurance/Takaful Activities with 20,593.
Overall, the DOSM figures indicate that online hiring activity weakened during the second quarter, while professional occupations and service-related industries continued to account for a significant share of available opportunities.
