Your sales profile.
Where deals become careers.
Sales hiring managers don't read resumes — they read numbers. 89% of VP Sales say they hire based on quota attainment history and deal size, not pedigree. Your profile should scream revenue, consistency, and closing ability. Here's how to build a sales profile that gets you the interview.
Deals that built your track record
Sales is a numbers game. Showcase your biggest wins, expansion plays, and strategic closes with real metrics.
Global Retailer — $1.2M ARR
9-month sales cycle with 8 stakeholders including CIO, CISO, and procurement. Navigated security review, legal redlines, and competitive bake-off vs. 3 vendors. Closed 23% above list price by quantifying $4.8M in operational savings.
Fintech Scale-Up — $680K Upsell
Identified expansion opportunity through usage data review. Built business case with VP of Engineering showing 3.2X ROI on additional modules. Negotiated multi-year commitment with 15% discount in exchange for case study and referral rights.
Healthcare System — $450K + Partnership
Cold outbound to C-level after industry event. Built custom ROI model for HIPAA-compliant deployment. Won deal despite being 40% more expensive than incumbent by proving 18-month payback. Secured partnership for joint webinar series generating 200+ MQLs.
Your numbers tell the story
Consistency across quarters is what separates top performers from one-hit wonders. Show the full picture.
Your sales methodology, documented
Top performers have a repeatable process. Show hiring managers how you qualify, progress, and close.
Prospect & Qualify
Research accounts before first touch. Use MEDDIC or BANT to qualify hard. No "hope" in the pipeline — every opportunity has a champion, budget, and timeline before it counts as real.
Discover & Diagnose
Ask questions that uncover pain, not just needs. Map the buying committee. Understand political dynamics, budget cycles, and competitive landscape before proposing anything.
Present & Prove
Tailor every demo to the prospect's specific use case. Use ROI calculators, case studies from similar companies, and pilot programs to de-risk the decision. Never demo features — demo outcomes.
Negotiate & Close
Anticipate objections before they arise. Build multi-threaded relationships so no single stakeholder can kill the deal. Know your walk-away price and your expansion path before you sign.
Tools that power your pipeline
Modern sales is a tech stack game. Fluency in the right tools signals you can ramp fast and sell efficiently.
Career trajectory & quota history
Show progression from SDR to closer. Highlight quota sizes, attainment rates, and deal complexity.
What leaders say about your closing ability
Sales is about trust. Testimonials from VP Sales, CROs, and clients prove you deliver.
Common questions for sales professionals
Everything you need to know about building a sales profile that gets you hired.
A sales portfolio needs 3–5 detailed deal stories with clear metrics: deal size, sales cycle length, stakeholder count, and competitive landscape. Include your quota history with attainment percentages across quarters. Show the full sales process — how you prospected, qualified, presented, negotiated, and closed. Screenshots of Salesforce dashboards, email sequences, or ROI calculators add credibility. Include at least one expansion/upsell story and one competitive win.
Use anonymized deal stories with approximate figures. "Closed a $1M+ ARR deal with a Fortune 500 retailer" is powerful without naming the company. Focus on your process and skills rather than proprietary customer details. Percentage improvements ("increased win rate by 15pp") are safe and compelling. If you're unsure, ask your former employer what's permissible — many companies are supportive of alumni success stories.
Specialize. Enterprise sales reps with deep industry expertise (healthcare, fintech, retail, etc.) command 25–40% higher OTE than generalists. Industry knowledge lets you speak the customer's language, reference relevant regulations, and build credibility faster. If you're early in your career, pick an industry where you have genuine interest or background knowledge. As you advance, vertical expertise becomes your moat.
Highlight methodologies you've actually used and can explain in detail. MEDDIC/MEDDPICC is the gold standard for enterprise SaaS. Challenger Sale works well for complex B2B. SPIN Selling is timeless for discovery. Sandler is popular for mid-market. Don't just list acronyms — explain how you adapted the methodology to your specific product and buyer. Certifications (MEDDIC, Sandler, Force Management) add credibility but aren't substitutes for results.
Three paths: (1) Get promoted internally by consistently exceeding quota and asking for larger accounts. (2) Join a scaling startup as employee #10–50 and grow with the deal size. (3) Move to a "commercial" or "growth" AE role at an enterprise company that handles $50K–$150K deals as a stepping stone. Build skills that transfer: multi-stakeholder management, procurement navigation, security/compliance conversations, and executive presence. Your SMB quota attainment history matters more than your title.
