Expo City Dubai is opening its immersive cultural experiences to the public for free during International Museum Day celebrations from May 16–18. The initiative highlights Dubai’s transformation story through heritage, leadership, and storytelling while reinforcing the city’s growing focus on culture, education, and community engagement.

Expo City Dubai Celebrates International Museum Day

Expo City Dubai will offer free public access to its immersive “Vision Dubai” experience and the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum during International Museum Day celebrations running from May 16 to May 18, 2026.

The initiative aims to reconnect visitors with Dubai’s cultural journey, leadership legacy, and national transformation story through interactive storytelling experiences.

This year’s global International Museum Day theme is: “Museums Uniting a Divided World.”

Vision Dubai Experience Brings Dubai’s Story to Life

The centerpiece of the celebration is “Vision Dubai,” an immersive experience inspired by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s book My Story: 50 Memories from 50 Years of Service.

The experience takes visitors through:

  • Dubai’s desert heritage
  • Bedouin traditions and values
  • The history of the Bani Yas tribe
  • Recreated childhood memories from Zabeel Palace
  • Sculptural tributes to Dubai Millennium, Sheikh Mohammed’s famous horse

The exhibition is designed to showcase the evolution of Dubai from a modest desert settlement into a global city.

Storytelling and Heritage at the Center of Celebration

Expo City officials say the event focuses on storytelling as a tool for:

  • Cultural preservation
  • Community connection
  • National identity
  • Historical reflection
  • Future inspiration

Marjan Faraidooni described the exhibition as both a historical record and a reminder of the values that shaped the UAE’s development journey.

Organizers emphasized that the experience is intended to create emotional and cultural connections rather than simply displaying artifacts.

Additional Attractions Open to Visitors

Alongside Vision Dubai, visitors will also receive:

  • Free access to the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum
  • Entry to Terra for Dh20
  • Access to Taqa Island for children

Terra features immersive exhibits focused on:

  • Sustainability
  • Biodiversity
  • Environmental awareness
  • Nature conservation

Taqa Island offers interactive indoor play experiences designed for younger visitors and families.

Expo City Continues Expanding Cultural Role

Since the conclusion of Expo 2020 Dubai, Expo City Dubai has increasingly positioned itself as:

  • A cultural destination
  • Innovation hub
  • Educational center
  • Sustainability platform
  • Community gathering space

The museum celebrations further strengthen Dubai’s broader efforts to promote tourism, culture, and public engagement through experiential attractions.

Dubai’s Heritage and Modern Identity Blend Together

The Vision Dubai experience highlights how the emirate continues balancing:

  • Rapid modernization
  • Cultural heritage
  • Leadership legacy
  • Innovation
  • Global connectivity

Analysts say cultural storytelling initiatives are becoming increasingly important as Dubai expands its international tourism and knowledge economy sectors.
