Jaguar Land Rover is planning around 4,000 job cuts over the next two years as part of a cost-saving and restructuring programme. The company said the automotive sector is facing intense competition, tariffs, technological changes and geopolitical uncertainty.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plans to reduce its global workforce by around 4,000 positions over the next two years through a voluntary redundancy programme. The move represents nearly 10% of its workforce and comes as the automotive sector deals with stronger competition from Chinese manufacturers, tariffs, technological changes and continued geopolitical uncertainty.
The company, owned by India's Tata Motors, employs approximately 43,000 people worldwide, including around 34,000 in Britain. JLR has not specified where the planned job reductions will take place.
The cuts are part of a wider turnaround effort aimed at delivering £1.7 billion in savings and reducing the company's break-even point towards 300,000 vehicles. The voluntary redundancy programme will mainly involve JLR's salaried and management workforce of around 26,000 employees.
Despite the cost-reduction programme, JLR said it plans to introduce five new products during the next 12 months. The company also intends to continue investing between £15 billion and £18 billion over the next five years in areas including electrification, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing and customer experience improvements.
JLR said simplifying its structure and reducing costs are necessary to make the business more resilient amid difficult conditions across the automotive industry.
The company is also recovering from a cyberattack that caused an extended production shutdown and affected suppliers in 2025.
