Oracle Begins New Round of Layoffs in US; India Job Cuts May Follow

Oracle has reportedly started another round of layoffs in the United States, with affected employees discovering on September 14 that their positions had been eliminated. The process reportedly involved employees losing access to internal systems before receiving formal notifications about the job cuts.

Some employees reportedly noticed their company logins stop working around 4 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by disruptions to Slack access and, in some cases, office badge access. By around 6 a.m., affected employees received an email from Oracle Leadership informing them that their roles had been eliminated as part of an organisational change.

Several Oracle Teams Reportedly Affected

Reports from employees indicated that the layoffs may have affected multiple parts of Oracle, including OCI security, enterprise engineering, observability, Fusion, NetSuite sales, Customer Success Services, Oracle Health, EPM and HR Technology. Some employees also reported cuts at Oracle's Stargate location in Abilene, Texas.

The reported layoffs were not limited to employees with weaker performance records. Workers with several years of service and positive performance ratings also said they were among those affected. One HR Technology employee reportedly said they had received several strong performance ratings before being laid off, while an OCI employee with four years of service said they had never received a rating below "meets expectations." A QA engineer with 24 years of service also reportedly received a termination notification.

Severance Information Still Unclear

Some affected employees reportedly lost access to company email and VPN services before receiving complete information about severance. Employees were asked to provide personal email addresses for further communication regarding separation documents and severance arrangements.

One employee in Oracle's database organisation reportedly said they were offered seven weeks of severance.

India and Other Regions Could Be Next

Employees reportedly expect the restructuring to move beyond the US, following the pattern of Oracle's earlier layoffs. India is expected to be among the regions potentially affected, with anticipated cuts involving the India Development Centre and customer support operations. However, these expectations have not been officially confirmed by Oracle.

Layoffs Come Alongside AI and Infrastructure Investment

The reported job cuts come as Oracle continues to invest heavily in AI and data-cententre infrastructure. Oracle said in a recent filing that restructuring costs were expected to rise by around $700 million, taking the projected cost of its fiscal 2026 restructuring plan to approximately $2.8 billion.

The company reported first-quarter capital expenditure of $28.5 billion, compared with $8.5 billion a year earlier, while maintaining its fiscal 2027 capital expenditure outlook at $90 billion to $95 billion.

Oracle's workforce had already fallen by around 21,000 employees during the fiscal year that ended May 31, leaving approximately 141,000 employees before the latest reported cuts.

Despite the restructuring, Oracle's revenue backlog increased by $26 billion to $664 billion.

Employees Had Expected Another Layoff Round
